Speechify's free plan is real but basic: listening tops out at 1.5x with a small set of voices. Premium is $29 a month or $139 a year on the web, and verified students get 25% off. Here is every plan with its source, what the limits mean, how to cancel, and a cheaper option if what you mostly listen to is PDFs.
Yes. The free plan needs no card and doesn't turn into a paid trial. You can listen to web pages, PDFs and documents in its apps and Chrome extension.
The limits are speed and voice quality: up to 1.5x, and a small set of basic voices. Premium removes those and adds AI summaries, chat, scanning and more.
On the web, Premium is $29 a month billed monthly, or $139 a year billed yearly, which works out to about $11.58 a month. The pricing page advertises the yearly plan as "SAVE 60%".
In the iPhone app, the App Store lists in-app purchases of $139.99, $159.99 and $11.99. It doesn't say which period each one covers, so read the price on the purchase screen before you pay.
Speechify says verified students get 25% off Premium through UNiDAYS, with Student Beans running similar offers. On the yearly plan that brings Premium to roughly $104 a year. US K-12 students may qualify for Premium free through its education program.
Premium includes a monthly word allowance for its premium voices. Speechify guarantees at least 150,000 words a month and, for all of 2026, 1,000,000 words a month. That is roughly 100 hours of listening at a normal speaking pace.
Speechify's terms say you can cancel at any time from your Speechify account settings, or from Apple or Google if you subscribed in the app.
For a refund, Speechify asks you to email its support team; App Store purchases are refunded through Apple.
If you want one app to read everything, everywhere (web pages, email, documents) with a big voice library and native apps, Premium is a strong product and the yearly plan is the better deal.
If most of what you listen to is long PDFs for study or work (chapters, papers, reports), you are paying for a lot you may not use. That's where a cheaper, PDF-focused option can make more sense.
VoiceBrief Pro is $99.99/year or $14.99/month. It reads your whole PDF aloud word for word with highlighting, skips page numbers and citations, and explains hard sections like a professor when you ask. It does less than Speechify outside PDFs.
