The PDF has real, selectable text. If it is a scan, run OCR and compare a sample against the page. Look for missing words, substitutions, and broken hyphenation.

Reading order follows the intended page sequence. Check headings, sidebars, footnotes, and multi-column pages. Visual position alone does not guarantee a useful extraction order.

Headings and document structure are represented. A tagged PDF should distinguish headings, paragraphs, lists, and other structural elements instead of presenting one undifferentiated text stream.

Meaningful images have useful text alternatives. Audio cannot recover the meaning of an unlabeled chart, diagram, or image. Keep the source available when visuals carry essential information.

Tables and lists retain their relationships. Confirm that list nesting, table headers, and cell order remain understandable when read linearly.

The document title, language, and bookmarks are useful. Set the primary language, provide a meaningful title, and add bookmarks for long documents so navigation does not depend on page numbers alone.

Audio quality assurance

Listen to the beginning, middle, and end. A clean first page does not prove the full file is clean. Sample distant sections before producing a long recording.

Repeated headers, footers, and page numbers do not interrupt narration. Remove repeated navigation text from the audio input when doing so does not remove meaningful content.

Multi-column pages play in the right order. Verify that narration finishes one column before moving to the next and does not jump between unrelated lines.

Names, abbreviations, and technical terms are understandable. Test domain-specific language and expand unclear abbreviations where appropriate. A natural-sounding voice is not proof of factual accuracy.

Formulas, charts, and images still have an accessible path. Narration alone may omit or flatten non-text content. Preserve the original and provide a human-readable description or alternate format where needed.

Chapters, file names, and exports support navigation. Split long audio at meaningful sections, label files clearly, and confirm the export opens in the intended player.

How to interpret the result

0–5 checks: remediate the document structure before relying on conversion.

6–9 checks: produce a short sample, test representative pages, and fix the failures.

10–12 checks: the document is a stronger conversion candidate, but the score is not a conformance result. Manual and assistive-technology testing still matters.
